Coking does not have a minimum start temperature, but the coke formation rate drops with decreasing temperature. At temperatures below 900 F coking occurs at slower rates.

Typical target delayed coking furnace coil outlet temperatures ~ 930-940F, which give you a drum vapor outlet temperature of 820-830 F (unquenched vapor). You can target lower temperatures ~ 890-900F and you could end up with a tarry drum scenario. Low COT will also impacts your overall liquid yield.
