Phenol generate in vacuum heater if your COT is very high, Due to high COT crack gas produce that means coke formation, so to avoid High COT operation, maintain proper vacuum, residence time to be reduce in vacuum bottom, use quenching recycle in bottom, keep optimum stripping steam. Use non phenolic wash water in crude instead of phenolic wash water.
