Q & A > Question Details
We have NHDT for Isomerization unit. In NHDT wash water used to dissolve the salt, thereafter sour water separated from naphtha in separator vessel. For last 2 months we are unable to separate sour water in separator or even in stripper column. What could be reason and solution?

Can you please share some details regarding
quantity of water injected
Unit load before two month and now?
System temp and pressure?
Any type maintenance activity done in last two months?
Are you getting water in Stripper OVHD receiver? Is it increased or not?
Ampere of the Water Injection pump?

Sounds quite strange.
What has changed in last two months? Was there a shutdown/opening of vessels?
When the water is injected what is the amperage of wash water pump; does it rise? Considering the cold separator has not changed and the water injected is not less than earlier, water must separate at prevailing temperature of cold separator.
(or there could be a drain open which could lead to continuous level build up in Closed blow down drum).
