Is it possible to have caustic stress corrosion cracking in the bottoms heat exchanger in a CDU?
We are injecting caustic downstream of the desalter at 5 deg Be to ensure 20 ppm max chlorides in the overhead sour water. Can excess caustic, if there is any, be present in the reduced crude as caustic and cause CSCC? Bottoms is on the shell side of the heat exchanger.

Logically, the caustic could "see" the channel head, but not the rest of the shell.
