Take a sample and let it rests in a bottle. If it forms a two-phase system, with a film over the amine solution surface, hydrocarbons are present in a quantity higher than their solubility in the amine solution, which can cause foaming problems. If it is the case, a couple of things may be happening: lean amine temperature below the dew point of the stream being treated, inadequate operation/design of the rich amine flash drum and/or liquid hydrocarbons carry-over from the upstream process.
