The term "Wild" came for stripper unstabilised naphtha due to its high RVP. A small variation in pressure lead dual phage flow due to presence of C4 component.

WILD NAPHTHA is nothing but Unstabilized naphtha stream, which comes from stripper overhead in hydrotreaters and comprises of light gases in it, mainly C1 & C2, in it.

'Wild naphtha' is still its natural state prior to stabilizing. It still contains light ends that need to be removed prior to achieve RVP specs required for gasoline pool and also make naphtha safe to store in atmospheric tanks and be transported.

It is usually a small overhead stream from a hydrotreater or hydrocracker stripper or fractionator. I assume the term wild comes from the high vapor pressure and the fact that there generally are not many specs on it, since it is basically a small leftover stream that results from meeting specs on other products.

I do not have any Idea why Wild term coined from. However, the naphtha has very inferior quality and not suitable for MS pool.
The yield is not substantial. With good catalyst the yield is only 0.5 to 2 wt%.

It is unstabilized naphtha, with a high RVP. It is just a name for it.

Wild Naphtha as it is called it contains some C5 and C4 hydrocarbons, so its RVP will be higher than Stabilised Naphtha, which has RVP of around 45 kP . Whereas Wild Naphtha has RVP of around or greater than 125 kPa .
