Q & A > Question Details
I am looking in the possibility of replacing the let down valves after the CHPS and HHPS bottoms (in Hydrocracker), with Power Recovery Turbines. Is there way to estimate how much power would I get?
And is it reliable to use the power recovery turbines instead of let down valves?
Other than that, are there other alternatives to recover that power?

We installed one at one of our facilities about 15 years ago. It was a 1700 Hp unit.... Ran well for a few years. I don't think it has run in quite a few years. We found the maintenance costs outweighed the benefits. It was fitted with Seal Plan 52's but even with the double seal protection at those pressures the risks of a loss of containment was too great.
