Check for presence of sulphate reducing bacteria (SRB) in the tank and add a suitable biocide if present. Merox treatment does not remove all sulphur compounds and SRB activity can liberate H2S.

The reasons may be many for the issue. 1. Increase the frequency of checking run down (R/D) sample for silver corrosion to find any slippage of off product goes to R/d. 2. Ensure jet fuel stripping steam flow is consistent and no condensate carryover in the steam (kero stripper). 3. Cleaning Jet fuel or ATF storage tank should be carried out once in an year. 4. Important cause may be migration of untreated kerosene product into jet fuel storage tank. If common manifold is there for jet fuel and kerosene, do positive isolation by inserting blind plates at appropriate locations to avoid migration of kero to jet fuel. But preferred procedure is ensure positive isolation by dropping spool pipe so that there can not be even a remote chance for migration of kerosene product.

Silver strip corrosion failures are caused by active sulphur species like hydrogen sulphide. Even hydrogen sulphide present in very low level and also active surfactants can also cause failure of silver strip corrosion test. The test is to be done with utmost care.
