Why we are using high pressure steam in heaters?

HP Steam is generally used to increase the velocity of Vacuum Residue inside the heater thereby reducing residence time of feed.
Low residence time is required in order to delay coking inside heater tubes.

Generally it is used to remove any coke deposits that is formed in heater sections. High pressure steam is used to remove hard coke deposits which are formed in heaters . Soft coke deposits are formed it can be cleaned with gas oil , whereever necessary.
