VFD/VSD motors on all pumps would be a dream come true... Unfortunately most refineries use the standard of running fixed speed and throttling the flow with control valves. If you run VFD's you dont have to worry about where on the curve you are operating... MTBF would improve and there would be a lot less seal failures

We are using 2 nos of VFDs with fluid coupling in 1 MW fans (motor drive) achieved considerable energy saving ~150-200 KW.

The closed loop use of Inverters ensures minimal energy usage for maximum effective production. the use if inverters in variable torque applications such as pumps and fans has been overlooked by many manufacturing plants and the electrical consumption DOL or star/delta starters on Large motors is still the norm. If you want further information please feel free to contact me.

Almost all refineries use VSDs/VFDs in process units. Best example is VFD/VSD driven motors for fans in Air fin coolers.
