in our naphtha hydrotreater with TK527(TOPSOE) CATALYST we have to treat a naphtha with 200 ppm oxygenate (MTBE), but we don't know is it harmful for catalyst or not??
operating condition:
feed=240 m3/hr
reactor inlet temp.=315 deg c
system press.=30 barg
(this unit is upstream of CCR UNIT)

Normally small amount up to 300 ppm of oxygenates wont be the problem, as oxygenates react with H2 and will be converted to H2O. if NHT is fed constantly with oxygenates for a period of time, the problem of corrosion in the unit will rise.

What is the source of 200 ppm MTBE in the naphtha. Haldor Topsoe catalyst TK 527 is a Ni-Mo catalyst with very good activity for S.R. and cracked naphtha hydrotreating. It is not likley to be adversely affected by the MTBE in your stream. Catalyst vendor can give you their comments
