A REASONABLE process design life is 10 years or more. However, this is highly dependent on process side corrosive elements AND air side operating conditions. Sometimes atmospheric contaminants can dramatically shorten fin/tube life due to corrosive deposits (salty dust, cooling tower drift, SO2 ,etc.)
Each installation in different and the local 'weather' must be carefully considered to select the proper metallurgy and anti-corrosion treatment. Often, external washing of the finned tubes is necessary to keep external deposits from causing corrosion.
